The Bible does not say much about the life of Jesus while he was growing up. What happened in the thirty years between the Nativity and the marriage feast of Cana? Well, Christopher Moore has finally told the story! Yes, it is all made up, but completely plausible. Moore has researched all that is known and woven a light hearted tale of the Messiah’s coming of age that fits the record. This story is told in the spirit of Jesus’ message.
Lamb is a story told by Joshua’s (The story uses Joshua, Jesus’ Hebrew name.) boyhood friend Biff. Biff is to Joshua as Sam is to Frodo in an adventure easily as exciting and exotic as Lord of the Rings, while serving as a prequel to the stories of the Bible. The tale is light hearted, detailing the invention of sarcasm and development of a martial art for the boy from Nazareth (Jewdo!), while seriously dealing with spiritual issues as well. Joshua seeks out the Magi from his birth, and studies under them to learn the knowledge that lets him realize who he is and what he is to do. It shows how Joshua might have become the man that changed the world.
